A man accused of smuggling methamphetamine into the Medicine Hat Remand Centre through Christmas cards was found guilty on all charges at the Court of Queen’s Bench on Thursday.
Ryan Horb, 34, had pled not guilty to four counts of trafficking methamphetamine.
According to the Crown, four Christmas cards laced with various quantities of liquid meth were delivered to MHRC in late December 2015.
“Two of the cards the accused delivered himself to a receptionist,” the prosecutor said.
One of the other cards was sent by mail, while the other was delivered by a different person.
The News reported at the time of Horb’s arrest in August 2016 that one of the cards was emblazoned with Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
All four envelopes had Horb’s DNA on them from licking their flaps shut.
The accused didn’t testify, but the judge concluded he must have known what was in the envelopes.
Defence counsel James Rouleau requested a pre-sentencing report.
Sentencing is scheduled to occur on Jan. 15 at 1 p.m. at the Court of Queen’s Bench.
