While summer may be coming to a close, the Esplanade is ramping it up.
Fifteen new shows were announced Monday afternoon at the Esplanade’s theatre in front of a large audience.
“This is our 2018/19 season launch,” said superintendent of operations and programming Trampas Brown. “We’ve already announced some of the shows for the fall but this is a culmination of the whole season and the announcement of another 15 shows that round out the year.
“The last show of the season is May 26.”
Brown says there is a lot of enthusiasm at the Esplanade because of these shows.
‘We’re really excited,” he said. “We’re thrilled that we’re able to offer such a diverse program — there’s really something for everyone.
“Whether it’s theatre, classic rock, country — you name it and we’ve got it for people this coming season.”
Brown says the Esplanade is trying something new this season with pay-as-you-will shows coming to Medicine Hat.
“It’s exactly what it sounds like,” he said. “People can come out and watch a performance, then determine how much value that show had to them.
“It’s something that can get more people out to our stage and maybe get them into a show they may not have taken a risk on otherwise.”
The new shows are headlined by Matt Good, Norman Foote, Tom Jackson, Cheesecake Burlesque and the Banff Mountain Film Festival. All shows can be found on the Esplanade’s website.
