The Medicine Hat RC’ers are holding the annual Fun Fly event this weekend at the Medicine Hat RC’er field just off of Box Springs Road.

The event is geared at getting people from the community out to the field and trying something new, says group president Shawn Heinz.

“We call this our Fun Fly and it’s just about getting people together,” he said. “We invite the public out to do some RC flying of all sorts and just have a good time.

“We’ll have planes, helicopters, drones as well as a simulator set up on site — there’s a good variety of things to try for anyone coming out.”

Heinz says the simulators are always a big hit.

“People who haven’t flown before, they can try and test their skills,” he said. “They’re always really fun for people to try out.”

There will be concessions on site offering burgers, hotdogs, chips and pop — there will also be raffles and prizes available.

Doors open at 8 a.m. Saturday, with the event running Saturday and Sunday.

Heinz says the free-to-attend event is for anyone to try.

“Over the years we’ve had everyone from elementary school students to folks that are 80-plus years old,” he said. “It all depends on if this sparks an interest in people.

“It’s really for everyone and we want to make it so it’s something everyone can enjoy.”
