The planned boat launch in Harlow and a new playground on Valleyview Drive SW will be slightly delayed, says the City’s parks and recreation department.
A South Saskatchewan River recreation picnic viewpoint and a non-motorized floating dock, with construction planned to commence last fall and be completed this spring, only has a picnic table and bench in position with a lovely view of the river.
Parks and recreation is still waiting for regulatory approval from the province before it can commence the boat-dock.
“The dock will be similar to what is at Echo Dale Regional Park and will be for non-motorized boat users (kayaks, canoes, people floating down the river),” said Maureen Mudry, manager parks, planning and development.
The initiative is part of the city’s South Saskatchewan River Recreation Opportunities project to improve use and access to the River, said Mudry.
Similar projects include upgrades to the parking lot at Strathcona Island Park to accommodate increased users, as well as providing a viewpoint, and a non-motorized dock. Regulatory approvals are also pending, said Mudry.
The children’s playground on Valleyview Drive SW, near Valleyview seniors residence, is to be replaced. This was expected this spring with completion this fall.
“The equipment is being manufactured and will be installed this fall,” said Mudry.
The cost of the playground project is expected to be $75,000 including design, demolition, new equipment and site restoration, said Mudry.
