The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program is holding a free event Sunday evening for Hatters to check out a full moon over the city.

Anyone wishing to view the moon rising over the city is being asked to meet across the street from St. Francis Xavier before 8:20 p.m.

“We’re calling this a full moon walk,” said park interpreter Mike Gurski. “After everyone has met, before the moon rises, we’re going to have a short little walk along the paved path that overlooks the city.

“As we’re doing that I’ll do my best to answer questions and talk to people about the moon. We’ll keep walking until we get to a little spot I’ve picked and we’ll watch the moon rise around 8:45 p.m.”

The group has held similar events in the past but they were held at Police Point Park. Gurski says the goal right now is to show people they can enjoy nature from anywhere in the city.

“We’ve been holding a lot of events recently trying to get people out and checking out the city,” he said. “We want to shoe people things they may not be used to seeing in their community.”

Bug spray and long-sleeve clothing is encouraged depending on the weather.
