Court Briefs: Eighth court appearance adjourned for man facing trafficking charges

A man charged with three counts of trafficking controlled substances had his case adjourned to Sept. 6.

Kaide Edward Baynham made his eighth appearance in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on Wednesday.

He faces an additional charge from the same incident of possessing property obtained through crime.

Defence lawyer Lyndon Heidinger requested the adjournment to have more time to consider the Crown’s position.

Accused enters residential treatment in Calgary

A woman arrested as part of Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team’s 2017 “Operation Suppression” had her case adjourned while she seeks treatment for at Alcove Addiction Recovery for Women in Calgary.

Haley J. Glentworth, 28, faces two charges of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purposes of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purposes of trafficking methamphetamine and possession for the purposes of trafficking heroin, as well as possessing proceeds of crime.

As a result of her entering treatment, the curfew and residence conditions of her bail had to be amended.

She is expected to be at Alcove for three months.

Glentworth’s next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 29.

Bail hearing adjourned

A 19-year-old woman arrested in June after being found in possession of methamphetamine, cocaine and weapons, including a baseball bat modified with several nails, screws and chains had her bail hearing adjourned Wednesday.

Police also found $2,360 in Canadian currency, a can of bear spray and a non-modified baseball bat.

Emily Hogben faces charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, two counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and possession of the proceeds of crime.

Her next appearance is scheduled for Sept. 6.
