Medicine Hat News A 21-year-old man has been arrested by the Medicine Hat Police Service on a number of charges, and is facing an attempted murder charge in Saskatchewan. Dillion Blais was arrested Wednesday after he fled a traffic stop being held by the MHPS. After police located Blais he was charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, bail violations, possessing stolen property and theft. Blais was originally released Friday after a bail hearing. The MHPS heard from Regina police that Blais had fresh charges of attempted murder, assault with a weapon, mischief and breach of probation. Blais was located in the city’s southwest and is now in police custody. The MHPS is thanking the community for its help in locating Blais. Threats One man was arrested Sunday after threatening police with a knife near Strathcona Island Park. Police responded to a complaint of threats that took place on an island just off-shore near the park. Two men were involved in a verbal dispute, which escalated into a weapon complaint — one of the men ended up threatening police with a knife. The Medicine Hat Police Service called upon its tactical team, crisis negotiators and K9 units to help control the scene. After three hours police deployed a pepper spray canister and the man surrendered himself to authorities. The man is facing charges of possessing a dangerous weapon, possessing a prohibited weapon, uttering threats, possessing stolen property and mental health apprehension for assessment. A police press release says the man’s name cannot be released at this point in time. 17
