One man was arrested Sunday after threatening police with a knife near Strathcona Island Park.
Police responded to a complaint of threats that took place on an island just off-shore near the park.
Two men were involved in a verbal dispute, which escalated into a weapon complaint — one of the men ended up threatening police with a knife.
The Medicine Hat Police Service called upon its tactical team, crisis negotiators and K9 units to help control the scene.
After three hours police deployed a pepper spray canister and the man surrendered himself to police.
The man is facing charges of possessing a dangerous weapon, possessing a prohibited weapon, uttering threats, possessing stolen property and mental health apprehension for assessment.
A police press release says the man’s name cannot be released at this point in time.
