Experiments at the Dock is a hands-on approach opportunity to explore wetlands, and it will take place Sunday at the Kin Coulee Dock starting at 7 p.m.
It is a great opportunity for children and adults to discover local wildlife by activities that can be recreated at home, said Mike Gurski, park interpreter Medicine Hat Interpretive Program.
The pond and dock in Kin Coulee are located behind the Lorne Holden softball field, said Gurski. During the event samples will be provided to complete interesting experiments.
“The idea is to bring people down to a local wetland, that’s really nice to look at, but we want to show people things they could maybe do with their kids or some people showed up as a group — some experiments for them to do,” he said. “It’s great to look at, but we want to show some people some things they can do for fun that won’t cause any damage.
“Things like sampling the pond, or finding bugs and how to safely put them back — there’s lots of interesting stuff to do in places like this.”
Anyone interested in attending should be on site by 7 p.m. and be dressed for the weather. Drinking water and mosquito repellent are highly recommended, said Gurski.
“Part of our focus has been to show that there’s so many great places like this in Medicine Hat,” he said. “This dock is a great example of that — it’s a beautiful spot in our city and we’re hoping to show people how to properly interact with it.”
