Southern Alberta Newspapers The festivities of the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede continue on the weekend of July 21-23 with an all-breed horse show. Each day’s events start at 8 a.m., with a Dressage and Western Dressage on Friday, English classes on Saturday and Western classes on Sunday. With the Dressage, riders complete a test for each level of riding they’re at. Each level has different challenges for the horse and rider. The event is entry level, so there are no jumps. The English classes begin with hunter and jumper classes, which both involve jumping over fences. The hunter classes are graded on style, form and manner, while jumper classes are based on who can get over the jumps in the shortest amount of time. The Western classes are more pattern-based and involve a more cowboy-oriented setup, where the participants and horses are judged on categories such as showmanship, reining and ranch riding. Although the official entry deadline has passed, participants in the classes are welcome to register up until the day before each class. They can do so online at http://www.mhstampede.com/annual-events/all-breed-horse-show, via e-mail at mhstampede@mhstampede.com, or fax at 403-529-6553 8
