Man charged after illegal rail ride in southeastern Alberta

By Medicine Hat News on May 8, 2017.

A Moose Jaw man is in custody after the RCMP in Redcliff pulled him off a freight train that was heading west on Sunday.

Authorities say that they were contacted by Canadian Pacific Railway after crews noticed someone was riding unlawfully on the train. It was stopped near Range Road 75 in Cypress County, west of Medicine Hat, and the man was arrested.

Matthew Hooey, 32, has been charged with contravening the Rail Safety Act. He is in custody to answer to four other outstanding warrants and two charges that he broke bail conditions.

Authorities and industry officials says that riding on the outside of a train is both unlawful and extremely dangerous.
