Natural gas up, electricity down for April

One goes up, one goes down.

The City of Medicine Hat has released its utility prices for April.

The natural gas rate has been set at $2.72 per gigajoule (GJ). It was $2.42/GJ in March.

For electricity, customers will pay 3.01 cents per kilowatt hour in April, down from 3.38 cents in March.

The city sets its monthly rates based on the average price charged across Alberta. The high natural price in April is $3.38/GJ set by AltaGas Utilities, while the low price is $2.50/GJ, set by Gas Alberta Inc.

In electricity the high is 3.08 cents set by Direct Energy Regulated – Atco Electric Area. Customers in Lethbridge will pay the lowest in the province at 2.82 cents.

Large industrial, commercial and street-lighting rate for Medicine Hat customers without a contracted rate was 4.10 cents per kilowatt hour.
