NEWS PHOTO GILLIAN SLADE Local resident Earl Morris wears a replica of the uniform his uncle Earl Morris wore when he joined the 10th Battalion of the First Infantry Division in Medicine Hat , September 1914. He served in France and Belgium and was taken prisoner at the second Battle of Ypres on April 22, 1915. After many escapes and being recaptured the Germans had him work in a salt mine. He returned to Medicine Hat after the war and later moved to California.
