Grammy-winning Canadian songstress Allison Russell is getting pulled into the underworld ““ on Broadway.
Russell is set to play Persephone in “Hadestown,” a musical reimagining of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice.
In a statement on Instagram, Russell calls “Hadestown” a “generational masterpiece and my favourite musical.”
She’s scheduled to join the cast on Nov. 12, in what will be her Broadway debut.
Russell, who is from Montreal, is up for Tuesday’s Polaris Music Prize for her album “The Returner,” and won the best American roots performance Grammy this year for her song “Eve Was Black.”
“Hadestown” hit Broadway in 2019 and won eight of the 14 Tony Awards it had been nominated for, including best musical.
