1. Please provide a short biography. Why have you chosen to run for trustee?

I was born and raised in Medicine Hat and I care deeply about the future of public schools.  I am running for Trustee of Medicine Hat Public School Division because I believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn in a supportive and well resourced environment.

My background is Early Childhood Education and Development, where I served as Day Care Director in both Medicine Hat and Calgary.  As Day Care Director with the City of Medicine Hat I worked collaboratively with our community professionals, developing and implementing Individual Program Plans (IPPs) for children with special needs.  This experience gives me strong incite and understanding in the importance of early intervention and ensuring every child receives the support they require to succeed.

In addition to working in Early Childhood, I have experience as Retail Manager both in Medicine Hat and Calgary.  This gives me a strong financial background and fiscal resourcefulness.  I bring these important skills to the position of School Trustee, where I will be entrusted to make decisions that affect the quality of education and responsible use of public funds.

2. What are your top three priorities for your division, and how would you work to meet those needs?

As Trustee my priorities include:

*  Classroom Size:  Smaller classes allow teachers to better support students.  I will encourage the Board to advocate for additional teachers and support staff so our classrooms are manageable and effective.

*  Local Input and Decision Making:  The recent Provincial book ban removed community voices from education decisions.  Families, educators and local Boards must be included in shaping policies that affect our children.

*  Phasing in Curriculum:  I will advocate for thoughtful phased in curriculum that is developed together with teachers,  parents and educational experts.  This ensures learning is relevant, inclusive and supportive for all students.

3. How would you aim to attract and retain students within your division?

Attracting and Retaining Students:  Medicine Hat Public School Division projected 156 students fewer this year, in part due to young people not finishing high school. Mental Health remains a critical focus after COVID, students need programs and support that help them stay engaged and succeed.  By investing in prevention and early intervention, we can help students complete their education and build stronger futures, benefiting students and community.

Our schools are the heart of our community.  As Trustee I will listen to parents, teachers and students, ensuring decisions reflect values of Medicine Hat families.  I would be honoured to bring my experience and dedication to Medicine Hat Public School Division Board of Trustee, I ask for your support on election day.
