Catholic – Kinch, Bernie

1. Please provide a short biography. Why have you chosen to run for trustee?

I strongly believe in Catholic Education. I am an active member of St. Patrick’s Parish. I am a retired teacher. I taught for 34 years, 27 of which was for the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Eduction. I also served as President of the local chapter of the  Alberta Teachers’ Association for Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education the last 5 years of my teaching career. I have been a Trustee for the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education for the last 4 years. All of these life experiences have provided me with a wide and varied set skills, practical knowledge, and practice.

I believe in being accountable to the constituents of Medicine Hat Catholic. I believe in being totally transparent and the importance of having an opinion and expressing that opinion in an open public forum.

I can promise as a Trustee to always vote in a manner which I believe in the best interest of the students of the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education. My 3 children and now 3 of my grandchildren are students in this District and I want the best education possible that reflects our beliefs as Catholics.

I thank you for your support and I welcome your questions and will always be approachable and willing to engage in an open and honest dialogue.

2. What are your top three priorities for your division, and how would you work to meet those needs?

The top 3 priorities I have for the Division are as follows:

Maintain and foster the level of Catholicity within our Division and provide opportunities for students, teachers and staff to increase their Faith

Continue to promote and bolster the incredibly high level of education our students receive while supporting individual growth and development

Oversee and manage the construction and transition to our newest school

3. How would you aim to attract and retain students within your division?

The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education has been consistently ranked highly on parental assessments and reviews as well as provincial test scores and as a Trustee I will endeavour to reinforce our position as an educational leader in the province which will continue to attract and retain students as evidenced by the increased enrolment over the past few years.
