Catholic – Doud, Alicia

By Scott Schmidt on October 1, 2025.

1. Please provide a short biography. Why have you chosen to run for trustee?

My name is Alicia Doud and I have 3 children all currently enrolled in MHCBE schools.  I have been actively involved as a parent volunteer for the past 11 years, as well as a member of the MHCBE Parent Association for the past 6+ years.  I am a current member of the MHCBE Audit Committee, bringing my accounting background to the table.  I have ran in the previous two elections – narrowly missing the last cut by 15 votes.  I still strongly believe that there is a need for parent representation on the Medicine Hat Catholic Board to voice the issues and concerns from our students that are most current in our Division.

2. What are your top three priorities for your division, and how would you work to meet those needs?

Priority 1: Continue to develop meaningful ways to align catholicity in our schools, community, and homes by working with faith staff, church leaders, families, and other community stakeholders to inspire faith formation and strengthen our Catholic identity.

Priority 2: Ensure delivery of a high-quality, responsive curriculum that meets and/or exceeds benchmark standards, as evidenced from real data outcomes.  Ensure adequate supports are utilized throughout the Division to facilitate proper learning environments for each and every student to reach their full potential.  Implement measures to ensure staff and students are abreast of the changing technological landscape – capitalizing on it’s potential while safeguarding from potential downfalls.

Priority 3:  Oversee good governance across the Division ensuring responsible financial management, realistic capital planning, long-term sustainability, and sound environmental stewardship.

3. How would you aim to attract and retain students within your division?

Registration numbers in the MHCBE have remained mostly static over the past 3 years, so without a large population shift, the focus will be on retention.  This will be accomplished through continued support to our schools and staff to offer quality, fun, and impactful programming, along with continued accessibility city-wide through transportation partnerships for our families.
