Some Microsoft customers experienced technical difficulties with some of the company’s services on Tuesday.
In a message on the company’s website, Microsoft said an unexpected usage spike resulted in two Azure components “performing below acceptable thresholds, leading to intermittent errors, timeout, and latency spikes.”
While the company is still investigating reports of intermittent errors in some regions and with some services, it said it believes that network configuration changes it made have “successfully mitigated the impacts of the usage spike.”
However, it said these changes are causing “some side effects” for certain services, and that it’s working to address those effects.
Earlier, Microsoft’s website said the impacts of the issues were being felt globally, including by users in Canada, who reported a spike in login, Outlook and website issues to Downdetector.ca.
Less than two weeks ago, Microsoft experienced widespread technical difficulties because of a routine software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike.
The CrowdStrike outage impacted airlines, banks and major retailers around the world.
