Ontario MP Marilyn Gladu says she’s joining Carney’s Liberal government

By Canadian Press on April 8, 2026.

OTTAWA — Ontario MP Marilyn Gladu says she has left the Conservative caucus to join Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberals.

In a statement posted on social media, Gladu says she believes this choice is the best thing for her community’s priorities and for the country.

Gladu has been elected as a Conservative four times in the Sarnia region.

She is now the fifth opposition MP to join the Liberal caucus since November.

Matt Jeneroux, Chris d’Entremont and Michael Ma left the Conservative benches, and Lori Idlout switched from the NDP.

Carney’s government now has 171 seats in the House of Commons, with three byelections to come on Monday that could put them into majority territory.
