ALVIN “SMOKEY” LANZ April 21, 1941- March 30, 2026 Smokey Lanz passed away at the Medicine Hat Hospital, surrounded by his loving family sharing laughter and stories of the many wonderful memories he helped create.
Smokey was a devoted family man who cherished time spent with his loved ones. He enjoyed many summers fishing and camping with his family, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come.
Known for his quick wit, Smokey always had a joke ready and brought laughter to those around him.
He was deeply community-minded and generously volunteered his time over the years, including coaching minor hockey in Medicine Hat and Redcliff, where he made a lasting impact on many young athletes.
Smokey was also involved in securing the grant that helped build the back nine of the Redcliff Riverview Golf Course, a place he enjoyed often with his wife, family, and friends.
He shared a love of travel with his wife, Gail, and especially enjoyed spending winters together in Palm Springs, surrounded by friends.
Smokey’s love for Gail was evident in the devoted care he gave her through several years of health challenges before her passing.
Smokey will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him and lovingly remembered by his sons, Ron Lanz (Monica) and Donny (Laurie) Lanz; grandchildren, Reid (Kyla) Lanz, Hayley (Ty) McKenna, Riley Lanz and Sidney Lanz (Alex); great grandchildren, Kayson and Hollin Lanz, Maysen McKenna; step grandchildren, Kurt Wepruk (Leighton & Landon) and Nick Wepruk (Sarah); sister, Carol Ogilvie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Smokey was predeceased by his wife, Gail Lanz; daughter-in-law, Monica Lanz; father and mother, Jack and Eva Lanz; mother-in-law, Dorothy Kachmar; stepfather-in-law, Peter Kachmar; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Jack Leismeister; brothers-in-law, Alan Ogilvie and Ken Melbourn; sister, Betty Melbourn.

MARION “BABA” LEIS 1945 ~ 2026 Marion “Baba” Anne Kathleen Leis, of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Parkinsons disease on Friday, March 27, 2026, at the age of 80 years. She leaves to cherish her memory, two children, Gary (Jan) Leis and Tim (Colleen) Leis; six grandchildren, Sarah Leis (Daniel), Victoria Leis, Rachael Joseph (Paul), Dustin Desanko (Kennedi), Brenden Leis, and Tiffany Desanko (Esteban) and the father of her children, Adolf Leis (Bonnie). She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Georgette Didack; her brother, Nicholas Didack, and her daughter, Lanette Desanko. Marion was born on June 28, 1945, in Camrose Alberta, to Michael and Georgette Didack. She attended St. Marys School in Medicine Hat and then Beauty School in Lethbridge. Marion worked at the family Texaco Service Station and coffee shop before moving on to hairdressing and then to Macleods department store eventually running a dayhome for 25 years. She had many hobbies including; crafting, sewing, gardening, cooking, baking, and visiting with her beloved grandchildren. Marion was also a member of The Canadian Royal Purple Society.
