HAMILTON — Joni Mitchell has brought her star power to the Junos’ orange carpet.
The 82-year-old folk legend was among the early arrivals to the ceremony, where she’s due to accept a lifetime achievement award.
Mitchell stopped on the carpet for photos, but left without taking questions from media.
She’ll be celebrated at the ceremony with a tribute performance by Sarah McLachlan and Allison Russell.
Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush have also teased that they’ll take the stage tonight.
Meanwhile, Nelly Furtado will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
Comedian Mae Martin is hosting the broadcast, which airs on CBC.
Most of the awards were handed out at a livestreamed gala last night, where no-show Tate McRae emerged as the big winner.
The Calgary-born pop star took home four of the night’s biggest prizes, including artist of the year, single of the year for “Sports Car” and album of the year for “So Close To What,” along with pop album of the year for the same project.
The only awards left to be handed out tonight are fan choice, breakthrough artist or group, group of the year and contemporary R&B recording.
While several stars will be absent, including Justin Bieber and The Weeknd, at least one is on the Junos guest list: Prime Minister Mark Carney. Canada’s leader will make his Junos debut tonight at Hamilton’s TD Coliseum.
