SYLVIA LUKSA

SYLVIA LUKSA December 11, 1934 ~ March 21, 2026 It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Slavica ‘Sylvia’ Luksa announce that she peacefully passed away with her beloved husband, Vinko, by her side in Medicine Hat on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the age of 91 years.
Sylvia immigrated to Canada from Croatia with her husband in 1957, where they quickly found a welcoming home of opportunity in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Their small suitcase was mostly filled with pioneering resilience and only a few dollars. Yet, this was motivating enough to find a way to stand-up the family business, Luksa Masonry, and get to work on building their new lives, and helping to build many of the communities and their neighbours around them. Service to others was an important theme and way of life for Sylvia always helping to build, even if it were selflessly from behind the scenes.
The spirit and results of their perseverance eventually brought Sylvia and Vinko to Medicine Hat in 1962, where it was now the right time and place to make a home for good. Sylvia loved entertaining at home, camping with their dog, Max, and tending to one of the most impressive gardens on the prairies. Sylvia had immense pride and fulfillment volunteering around the city, particularly for the pediatric unit at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for over 15 years and with the Kiwanis Club of Medicine Hat for well over 40 years. Notably, Sylvia tirelessly rallied for humanitarian supports on many levels during the Croatian War of Independence in the early to mid 1990’s, for which her efforts were locally, nationally and internationally recognized.
Sylvia will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her husband, Vinko; sister, Ana and her family; brother, Vladimir (Irena); one step-son; brother-in-law, Frank as well as many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her young children, Lydia and William, who she loved so very much as well as her parents back in Croatia.
The family extends their deepest gratitude and a sincere thank-you to those who provided their very best compassionate care to Sylvia.
In respecting Sylvia’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. So, in recognition of her passing, perform an act of kindness for a stranger today with Sylvia in mind.

1932~RONALD”RON”BELL~2026RON

1932 ~ RONALD “RON” BELL ~ 2026
Ronald “Ron” Bell, beloved husband of the late Anna “Ann” Bell (née Deis), passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, in Medicine Hat, at the age of 93. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his children, Garth (Greta) of St. Albert, Alberta, Wes Bell, and Sherry (Gianfranco) Dalla-Longa, both of Medicine Hat. Ron also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren, Stephanie, Serafina, Justine, Brook, and Rebecca, and his great-grandchildren, Luca, Mateo, Anna, Culver, and Cashius, all of whom brought him great pride and joy. Ron was predeceased by his brother, William “Bill” Bell (Shirley). Ron was born to Frank and Anne Bell on June 28, 1932, in Medicine Hat, where he happily lived and thrived throughout his entire life. His greatest joy was time spent with Ann and their children, especially during family vacations. It was this sense of togetherness that defined family for him throughout his 59 years of marriage. Although his family brought him his greatest sense of pride, Ron’s 33-year career with the Medicine Hat Fire Department was another of his most significant accomplishments. He served 17 years as a firefighter before being promoted to Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention in 1977, then to Deputy Chief of Firefighting in 1982, and ultimately to Fire Chief in 1984. During his years of service, a new fire prevention program and comprehensive firefighter training programs were introduced, enhancing both public safety and the professional development of those under his leadership. Ron retired in 1993. In the years that followed, he and Ann enjoyed several cruises and travelled extensively throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, South America, and the Caribbean. Throughout his life, Ron loved the outdoors and found great pleasure in camping, fishing, golfing, hunting and a fun wiener roast with family and friends. The family wishes to express sincere thanks for the wonderful and loving care Ron received over the past few years at Cypress View Foundation, Medicine Hat Care Community, and Masterpiece Southlands Long-term Care, with special appreciation to Dr. Claassen and Dr. Van der Merwe for their compassion, dedication, and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Medicine Hat Firefighters Charitable Foundation (www.mhffcharity.com). Condolences may be sent through http://www.saamis.com or to condolences@saamis.com, subject heading Ronald Bell. Celebration of Life announcements will be made at a future date.
