newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com The city will begin collecting organic yard waste materials Apr. 6, and as usual, on the same day as household waste and recycling collection. Residents are able to request a green vented 95-gallon organic waste cart for a one-time service fee of $50 that can be used to get rid of acceptable yard wast materials. A full list of accepted materials can be found by visiting the city’s website, and includes grass clippings, leaves, weeds, cut flowers and plant trimmings. A list of material that cannot go in green bins can also be found online, including rocks, soil, sod, pet waste, metal and concrete or brick. The city also encourages residents to incorporate reduction, reuse and recycling of organic products, as yard waste is difficult to break down in landfills. Tips on grasscycling, mulching and composting can also be found on the city’s website. 8
