Five more recall efforts fail, including for MLA Justin Wright

Elections Alberta has completed petition verification for five petitions, including the one working to recall Cypress-Medicine Hat MLA Justin Wright, with none found successful.

Petitions for Calgary-Cross MLA Mickey Amery, Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville MLA Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk, Grande Prairie-Wapiti MLA Ron Wiebe and Wright were received in accordance with their stated deadlines, but preliminary processing of collected signatures found they did not reach the necessary number of names to proceed to the next phase of verification.

The petition to recall Edmonton-Beverly-Clareview’s Peggy Wright was not received by Elections Canada by the end of the 90-day canvassing period and as such is ineligible to be counted.

Within the 90-day period, the petition to recall Wright collected a total of 2,087 of the 13,150 signatures required. The News reached out to organizers but did not receive a response by press time.
