newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Medicine Hat Economic Development has launched a new online platform designed to provide the local business community and residents information on market conditions and businesses active in the region. The MHED Business and Community Data Tool launched this week expands on the city’s previous community data repository and provides users access to a wider range of economic, transportation, neighbourhood and workforce information. Notable upgrades include interactive maps and data visualizations along with the ability to export customized reports and datasets using data from sources including the provincial government and Statistics Canada. “This platform gives investors, business owners and residents an easier, clearer way to understand who we are,” said Selena Mclean-Moore, director of economic development. “Our people, our workforce and our business – so we can make confident, well-informed decisions about the future.” The online portal can be found through the MHEC website at insights.medicinehat.ca and is powered by a data platform used by several municipalities across the country. “By centralizing reliable data in a single location, the platform supports informed decision-making for local businesses, city selectors, developers and community partners,” reads a press release. 8
