Ringette Roundup: U19 Mustangs secure provincials spot with a play down win

The Medicine Hat U19B Mustangs will be playing in provincials this month.

The local ringette team secured a spot in the U19 provincials with a playdown win on Sunday.

After a power outage at the Moose, the Medicine Hat Ringette Association was able to secure new ice, and the Mustangs skated to a 12-4 win over the Calgary Bow View-1.

Ryleigh Jackiw had three goals and three assists, Karly Stennick had two goals, Bella Heinrichs had a goal and two assists, Leighton Wright, Kensie Provost, Ava Allchurch, Ravynn Lehr and Kasey Martin all had a goal and an assist.

Kendall Smith had a solo tally and Avi Velichko had three assists.

Their second playdown game was cancelled due to the power outage and a lack of ice. Despite the cancellation, the Mustangs qualified for provincials in St. Albert on March 20-22 with a 4-1 record in pool play.

U12

The U12B Mustangs were in Calgary on Sunday for their final league games of the season.

They faced Calgary Northwest, skating to a win.

Sloan Loehndorf led the way with a goal and five assists and Charlie Lowe tallied nine points in the game. Dylin Kerluke and Avery Fuller each recorded hat tricks, Aphten Myram added two goals.

Katie Vis and Zayda Dawson each chipped in with two assists, Isabelle Perrault and Kerluke added one helper each. Fallyn Weeks was in net earning the win for the Mustangs.

Their second game, against Calgary South, was cancelled by the home team who forfeited due to weather.

The Mustangs will head to Lethbridge on March 23 for exhibition games before competing at Regionals beginning March 27.

The U12C Mustangs hit the road to Indus for a matchup with Strathmore and came away with a dominant 8-2 win.

Goals were scored by Ellie Weisgerber, Maizee Trotter, Kimber Moch, Addison Staheli and Jayla-Ray Klaudt, with assists from Eris Davies. Nora Dunn was solid between the pipes.

The Mustangs carried the momentum to Cochrane, extending their winning streak with an 11-4 victory. Goals came from Lexi Aldred, Madeline McDonald, Staheli, Klaudt, Moch and Trotter, with an assist from Lexxon Martinez. Hailee Kopeck stood tall in net.

U10

The U10 Step 2 Mustangs were in Lethbridge for a pair of games.

In the first game, Brinley Chabluk was in net for first half and Sadie Rykes was between the pipes for the second half.

In the second game, Addison Clegg scored for the Mustangs, Talia Chartrand and Olive Roste split duties in net.

Open

The MHRA Open teams are on the road to provincials this weekend, with the Open B Smash in Calgary and the Open C Force heading to Leduc.
