Minor Hockey Roundup: U17AAA SE Tigers win last two regular season games ahead of postseason

The Medicine Hat U17AAA South East Tigers enter the AEHL playoffs on a high note

The Tigers beat the Lethbridge Hurricanes 8-1 Saturday before winning 3-2 in overtime Sunday at home over the Calgary Flames.

Hayden MacNeil led the offence in Saturday’s win with two goals and an assist. Illya Khazov had two goals, all three of Nixon Davis, Canaan Fleck and Finn Willerton had a goal and an assist and Hudson Gross had a solo tally. Cameron Slater had three assists and Griffin Stenger made 24 saves in net.

In Sunday’s overtime win, Dane Friedt scored the game winner for the Tigers, adding an assist on the day. Khazov also had a goal and an assist, Rhyder Arnold scored and Jake Druar made 40 saves for the win.

The U17AAA SE Tigers (10-19-0-0-5) finished the regular season as the eighth seed and they will take eon the number one seed Red Deer Chiefs in a best-of-three series.

Game 1 is Thursday on the road and Game 2 is at the Big Marble Go Centre on Saturday at 1 p.m. If needed, game 3 would be Sunday in Red Deer.

U18

The Medicine Hat U18AA Hounds played three regional round robin playoff games this week.

They lost 5-4 Thursday to the Golden Suns before falling 19-3 Friday to the Okotoks Oilers. Later in they day they beat the Lethbridge Hounds 4-1.

In Thursday’s loss, Ethan Hall had two goals with an assist, Everett Ward and Mavric Ward each scored, Hudson Corbett made 42 saves. Against Okotoks, Jaxon Bohrn had two goals and Colten Pluta found the back of the net, Trenton Wilson and Corbett combined for 51 saves.

Brody Dick scored twice in Friday’s win over Lethbridge. Gavin Gudmundson and Pluta each scored and Corbett made 34 saves.

The U18AA Hounds did not qualify for the regional playoffs.

U16

The Medicine Hat U16AA Hounds lost 4-1 Saturday to the CRAA Gold in their last regular season contest. Everett Ward scored for the Hounds, Bryden Tschritter made 37 saves.

The U16AA Hounds (9-22-0-0-1) have three regional round robin playoff games this week on home ice.

They host the Wheatland Warriors on Thursday for a 4 p.m. contest at the Kinplex. On Friday they host the Bow Valley Timberwolves at the Hockey Hounds Arena for a 7 p.m. game. The Hounds will host the Okotoks Oilers on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. at the Hockey Hounds arena.

U13

The Medicine Hat U13AA Hounds played four regional round robin games last week.

They lost a pair of games Thursday, falling 9-3 to the Wheatland Warriors and 5-3 to the Foothills Bisons. They tied the Lethbridge Hurricanes 7-7 Friday and skated to a. 4-4 draw Saturday against the Golden Suns.

In the loss to Wheatland, Bennet Skappak had a goal and an assist, Max Chisholm and Exton McGarvey both scored and in net, Treyson Donnelly and Asher Nardari combined for 23 saves.

Against Foothills, McGarvery, Cohen McLaren and Stetsen Kreise each scored and Nardari made 24 saves.

In Friday’s draw with Lethbridge, McLaren had a hat trick, McGarvey had two goals and Hudson Danroth had a goal and an assist. Owen Maser score da solo marker and Donnelly made 38 stops in net.

Max Chisholm had two goals and an assist in Saturday’s tie with the Golden Suns. Danroth and Austin Schenider each cored for the Hounds, Nardari made 20 saves.

The U13AA Hounds did not qualify for the regional playoffs.
