Kevin Koe reaches Brier final with 9-7 win in an extra end over Matt Dunstone

By Canadian Press on March 7, 2026.

ST. JOHN’S — Alberta’s Kevin Koe is a win away from a Canadian men’s curling championship.

Koe’s team from Calgary beat Manitoba’s Matt Dunstone 9-7 in an extra end Saturday in a playoff between the top two seeds for an express ticket to Sunday’s final of the Montana’s Brier.

The winner of the final represents Canada at the world championship later this month in Ogden, Utah, and returns to next year’s Brier in Saskatoon as defending champion.

Dunstone drops to the semifinal to face defending champion Brad Jacobs, who eliminated hometown favourite Brad Gushue from contention with a 7-5 win.

Koe is a four-time Brier champion skipping different lineups than the one he has now.

He won his last title in 2019 when his team went undefeated in Brandon, Man.
