sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The Medicine Hat U19B Mustangs opened playdowns with a trio of wins. They started playdowns on Saturday, facing the undefeated Calgary Bow View-4. It was their lone loss of the weekend, falling 5-1. Kensie Provost had the lone goal, Kendall Smith had an assist. In their second game, the Mustangs bounced back in a big way against Calgary Bow View-4, skating to a 5-4 win. Ryleigh Jackiw had a pair of goals and an assist, Kasey Martin, Leighton Wright and Reese Tabor each scored and both Avi Velichko and Sutton Provost had a pair of assists. The Mustangs faced South Calgary-1 in their first game of the day Sunday, winning 7-3. Avi Velichko and had two goals and two assists, Jackiw had a pair of goals with an assist and Wright scored twice. Kensie Provost had a solo marker and Revyn Lehr had three assists. In their second game Sunday, the Mustangs faced a strong Airdrie-1 team, winning 6-3. Allchurch had three goals, Wright had a pair of goals and Kensie Provost had a solo tally. Martin added three assists and Sutton Provost had a pair of assists. Affiliate goalie Emma Pinnell joined the U19 Mustangs in Rockyford for the games Sunday. The Mustangs look to continue their success this weekend at home for their final two playdown games. On Sunday they host Calgary Bow View at 11:30 a.m. and South Calgary-2 at 2:30 p.m., both games at the Moose Rec Centre. U16 The U16B Mustangs were in Rockyford over the weekend for the final games of Session 3. The Mustangs took the first game 6-3 against Cochrane. Margot Kerr and Kassidy Etienne each scored twice, and both Jillian Stodalka and Sloane Berstad added tallies. Etienne, Stokalka, Madison Helgeson and Tia Van Maarion all had assists, Emma Pinnell was between the pipes. In the Mustangs’ second game, they skated to a 15-8 win against Foothills. Breanna Lanuk scored four goals, Kerr had a hat trick, both Etienne and Lacey Gibney had a pair of goals and Helgeson, Onyka Funk, Van Maarion and Berstad all scored. Assists tallied by Lanuk, Kerr, Etienne, Gibney, Helgeson, Funk and Van Maarion. Jacqueline Leblanc was between the pipes. The Medicine Hat U16B Mustangs will head to provincials in Leduc starting March 13. U12 The U12B Mustangs hosted Lethbridge for their final home games of the season on Saturday. The Mustangs opened the scoring in the first game but couldn’t maintain the lead, falling 7-4 to the Rattlers. Charlie Lowe led the way with a hat trick, Dylin Kerluke added the other Mustangs goal. Assists went to Isabelle Perrault, Laila Loehndorf (AP) and Fallyn Weeks. In their second game, the Mustangs struggled to find their stride, dropping an 8-2 decision. Single goals came from Lowe and Avery Fuller, with Katie Vis picking up an assist. Zayda Dawson stood tall in net for both games. The Mustangs will wrap up their league schedule in Calgary on Mar. 8 before Regionals at the end of the month. The U12C Mustangs dominated the Lethbridge Rattlers on Saturday, winning both games. The first game was a 9-1 victory with goals from Maizee Trotter, Kimber Moch, Jayla-Ray Klaudt, Madeline McDonald and Rowyn Greenlay. Nora Dunn was solid in net. In the second game, the Mustangs won 7-2, with Addison Staheli, Ellie Weisgerber, Trotter and Greenlay finding the back of the net. Assists came from Eris Davies, Miriam McClung, Klaudt, and Moch. Hailee Kopeck played strong in goal, with Lexi Aldred anchoring the defence. The U12C Mustangs head to Regionals in Lethbridge, starting Mar. 20. U10 The Mustangs U10 Step 3 team wrapped up their final set of league games on a high note, earning a victory and a hard-fought tie to close out the regular season. In their opening game, Medicine Hat secured a 5-3 win. Harper Fuller led the way with two goals, capitalizing on plays set up by Everley Cross and Gabriella O’Reilly. O’Reilly also added a goal of her own, assisted by Rowyn Greenlay. Ridley Trotter found the back of the net off another setup from Greenlay and Kylee Drever rounded out the scoring with a goal assisted by Trotter. Laila Loehndorf stood tall in net. The second game brought more excitement as the Mustangs battled to a 6-6 tie. Ridley Trotter stood in net for the draw. The teams traded goals in a fast-paced contest. Gabriella O’Reilly and Kylee Drever continued their strong offensive play, with Drever scoring twice. Everley Cross netted three goals, with Adelynn McKinley contributing assists. With league play now complete, the Mustangs will turn their attention to the Lethbridge “Bridge Battle” tournament starting March 13, the final event of their season. The Medicine Hat U10 Step 2 Mustangs played a pair of games. Against Airdrie, Brinley Chabluk scored and both Kylie Klaudt and Teagan Forsyth were in net. In the second game, taking on Cochrane, Chabluk and Klaudt each scored twice, Forsyth added a goal and Talia Chartrand was in net. 31
