Hatters can welcome in the spring with some new books, as the Medicine Hat Public Library kicks off the season with its popular Spring Book Sale.

“The March book sale will be bigger and better than ever,” says Sue Masterman of the Friends of the Medicine Hat Public Library. “Be sure to come to the library March 20-21 to pick up some real bargains.”

On both days from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m, residents can add to their “to read piles” from a choice of potentially thousands of fiction and non-fiction books of all genres, for all ages, plus DVDs, CDs, magazines and board games.

Head of marketing and community engagement Chris Brown says many people in the community look forward to the sale for months, and people are often lined up before the library doors open on sale days.

“You can find well-known classics, nearly brand-new best sellers and gems that flew under your radar when they were first published years ago,” said Brown.

Each year, the sale raises roughly $5,000 for the library, which will cover anything from program supplies to furniture as needed.

The library is accepting donations toward the sale and will be through to Mar. 14. Those interested in parting with gently-used books, DVDs, CDs, magazines and board games are asked to bring them to the tables behind the theatre on the lower level.

Textbooks, encyclopedias, VHS tapes, cassettes, vinyl records and items more than 15 years old will not be accepted.
