sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews Two Medicine Hat hockey players were tabbed on an all-rookie team in their first season with the University of New Brunswick Reds women’s hockey team. Forward Keira Grant and goaltender Taya Christie were named to the Atlantic University Sport all-rookie team, as selected by the conference’s eight head coaches. In 28 games with the Reds, Grant had four goals and 13 points. She had a pair of game-winning goals. Christie appeared in six games for the Reds, working a 5-1 record with a .83 goals against average and a .960 save percentage. Both Grant and Christie captured Esso Cup gold with the Edmonton Jr. Oilers in April, defeating the Saskatoon Stars 7-3 at the Canada Women’s U18 National Club Championship hosted in Llyodminster. The UNB Reds are two games into their semifinal playoff series with the St. Thomas University Tommies. They won Game 1 1-0 on Wednesday and lost Game 2 Thursday 1-0. Game 3 of the best-of-five series is Sunday and Game 4 is Monday. A decisive Game 5, if needed, is March 4. 9
