newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com The Medicine Hat Knights of Columbus have announced the 2026 K of C Free Throw Championships will run in March, and registration is open for Catholic students aged nine to 14. The competition between schools in the district will be held at Notre Dame Academy on Mar. 8 and each school will be able to award ribbons to the top three in each age category. According to the rules, shooters will attempt 15 consecutive free throws behind the designated free-throw line and will be scored on how many baskets are made. In the event of a tie there will be a five-shot tiebreaker round until a winner is determined. Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education says all participants must print off a scoresheet found online to complete 15 shots at the student’s home school. They will then bring the scoresheet with them to Notre Dame Academy for the final competition. A media release published by the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education says the tournament is open to all students within the age range as long as they complete a permission form by Mar. 2. 8
