Medicine Hat News The Medicine Hat Cubs will face the Okotoks Bisons on Sunday in a must-win Game 5. The Cubs were shutout 5-0 Saturday in Okotoks as the Bisons tied up the best-of-five, second-round series at 2-2. The Cubs carried a 2-1 lead into Okotoks on after scoring five unanswered goals Friday at the Kinplex to win Game 3 6-3. Bisons net minder Derrick Ford stopped all 45 shots he faced for his second shutout of the series. Ford turned aside 31 shots in the Bisons’ 4-0, Game 1 win on Feb. 13. Medicine Hat rebounded with a 4-3, Game 2 win on Feb. 15 to even up the series. Okotoks scored a pair of goals in the first period Saturday night, with Nathan Flanagan and Kaelan Bodnarchuk beating starter Kayne Wright to lead 2-0 after 20 minutes. The Bisons added another pair in the middle period, the first coming on a power play. Hunter Cobb scored 9:35 into the period on the man advantage and he scored again 3:25 later to give Okotoks a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes. Okotoks rounded out the game with a fifth goal as Brandon Jarman found the back of the net 8:39 into the third to cap off the series-tying win. The Cubs outshot the Bisons 45-34 in the loss. Wright finished with 29 saves. Game 5 of the series goes Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Kinplex. The winner between Medicine Hat and Okotoks will face the Cochrane Generals in the South finals. Cochrane, the third seed in the South, beat the second-seed Strathmore Wheatland Kings 3-1, winning the series with a 4-2 victory Friday. 11
