The Medicine Hat Mavericks will return an all-star to the mound this summer.

Right-handed pitcher Luis Diaz will return to Medicine Hat for second summer, the local WCBL club announced Monday.

Diaz, a product of Agua Prieta, Mex., earned a spot in the all-star game in his first summer in the red and white. He threw 55.1 innings with 49 strikeouts and a 3.74 ERA.

He started Game 1 of the Mavs’ first-round playoff series with the Regina Red Sox, working seven innings allowing just three runs on five hits with six strikeouts.

He is joined on the mound with returnee Diego Centella, catcher Jamel Chabot, infielders Evan Morrison, Carter Roth, Blake Dale and outfielder Jeremy Freeman Jr.
