As the medal games for the 2026 Winter Olympics draw near, Hatters will be able to, with luck, be in bars early to cheer on the nation. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis accepted requests for extended hours for establishments with Class A, B and C liquor licences to be able to host patrons to cheer on various events. These requests were available for all medal rounds for Olympic sports, as well as any Team Canada hockey game played outside medal rounds. The Silver Buckle has received approval from AGLC to extend operating hours and open early for both the men’s and women’s Olympic hockey medal games, and The North Sports Bar & Grill will be open for both the men and women’s medal games, provided Team Canada is a contender. “We’re grateful for the flexibility and the opportunity to bring the community together for these significant moments,” said Silver Buckle owner Devon Potvin. He adds preliminary and knockout-round games will be reviewed based on demonstrated demand, and the Buckle team will “continue working closely with AGLC to ensure we operate responsibly while providing a high-energy, well-managed environment for fans to cheer on Team Canada.” DayzOff Pub and Juggie’s Tap House & Grill confirmed they would not offer extended hours for the games and Scoreboard was unable to confirm any additional hours by press time. 7
