James Cameron, Barbara Hannigan win Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards

TORONTO — “Titanic” filmmaker James Cameron has won a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award.

He’s among five recipients of the prize for lifetime artistic achievement, while conductor Barbara Hannigan received the National Arts Centre award, which recognizes extraordinary work in the last year.

Other lifetime achievement award winners include “Ils s’aiment” singer-songwriter Daniel Lavoie and set and costume designer Susan Benson.

Dancer and choreographer Sylvain Émard and actor-producer Tonya Williams also received the prize.

Meanwhile, writer-educator Sae Hoon (Stan) Chung was awarded the voluntarism prize.

The ceremony is scheduled for June.
