The scheduled plea entry for a Medicine Hat police officer has been postponed to March.

Const. Noel Darr was scheduled to enter a plea in provincial court Tuesday for charges of obstructing justice.

The case was granted an extension until Mar. 5 to provide lawyers with sufficient time to work through a disclosure that exceeds 1,000 pages.

Court documents show Darr faces charges that he unlawfully and wilfully attempted to “obstruct, pervert, or defeat the course of justice” by dissuading a witness from giving evidence by “threats, bribes, or other corrupt means.”

Darr’s criminal charges were laid in July following an investigation by the Edmonton Police Service.

Darr is also named as a defendant in a $1.85-million lawsuit filed by former Medicine Hat police chief Mike Worden.

Files related to the lawsuit also accuse Darr of providing false information about Worden to former Medicine Hat journalist Tiffany Goodwein.

Neither the civil nor criminal allegations have been proven in a court of law.
