From flowers, chocolates and a cozy-night at home to a fancy dinner and a movie or perhaps an afternoon skating or hiking outdoors, most Medicine Hat couples will enjoy a “traditional” date or evening out this Valentine’s Day.

However in Medicine Hat, couples have the opportunity to catch up on local historic ghost lore and hunt for the paranormal during the first ever Haunted Medicine Hat Trolley Tour Valentine’s Day edition.

Saturday night the Haunted Medicine Hat Trolley Tours is expanding their regular service this year by rolling out more tours themed after holidays and events.

The Valentine’s Day tour will feature several ghost stories involving romance and heart break, and will visit a new secret local paranormal location to investigate.

“We have a very special surprise stop that we’ve never been to before and I’m actually not going to reveal what that is,” said the tight-lipped Tamara Miller, founder of Miller’s Haunted Tours run out of Miller’s Emporium. “Definitely some love related ghost stories on the tour, the folklore itself is always super interesting and super fun to listen to.”

However Miller says the tour will explore the folklore of Valentines Days and in particular the tour will explore the numerology associated with Valentine’s Day and the month of February.

“Valentine’s Day itself has interesting numerology, but the numerology in February is interesting and there definitely will be some numbers incorporated into this tour, we are really interested in that side,” explained Miller.

The local ghost tours, held in the Medicine Hat Trolley, visit paranormal locations and conduct investigations around the city and Redcliff. They were founded by Miller who was inspired by the city when she moved here from Moose Jaw in 2021.

“My whole intention behind these tours is to draw tourism to Medicine Hat, because that’s the first thing I noticed when I got here,” said Miller. “There’s so much potential for tourism in the city,”

Miller ran her first haunted tour around the Halloween season in 2024 and since that time, hundreds of Hatters and visitors have signed up for more than 20 sold out tours in 2025.

The haunted tour run by Miller is a unique experience to the southern part of the province and was recently recognized by Tourism Alberta for its impact on growth in local tourism.

Last November, Miller’s Haunted Tours was one of three finalists recognized for the Tourism Alberta GRIT Award, which recognized innovators and leaders who drive tourism to the province.

This year, Miller is hoping to expand its haunted tours by also offering haunted walking tours to visit local places of paranormal interest beginning in the Spring.

“The tours will be shorter and I have another guide as well, so I won’t always be running it,” Miller said.

She wants to focus more on providing her service as a medium, an individual who claims to act as an intermediary between the living and the spirit world, to clients participating in upcoming tours as well as offering more private tours for birthday or staff parties.

“So I’m looking forward to practising more of that and incorporating more numerology,” Miller said.

Spaces are limited for the Haunted Trolley Tour Valentine’s Day Edition and tickets can be purchased for $40 on eventbrite.ca. The tour begins at 7:30 p.m. and is estimated to last an hour.
