The Medicine Hat Mustard Seed is seeking team captains and walkers for its annual Coldest Night of the Year walk on Feb. 28.

The event invites participants to walk in solidarity with individuals and families facing winter hardship. Individuals, families, teams and workplaces can either walk two or five kilometres to raise money for those facing hunger and homelessness in the community.

The two official routes will features signs, rest stops, volunteers and snacks at the end.

Participants can also elect to self-organize their own walk with friends or individually, walking any day in the month of February along a route of their choice.

Since 2011, the fundraiser has raised more than $75 million across Canada in 190 different communities.

All funds raised will remain in Medicine Hat and directly support shelter, meal, health and outreach services at the local shelter, as well as future programming to meet the evolving needs of vulnerable Hatters.

The walk starts from the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede grounds.

The event kicks off at 5 p.m., with registration beginning at 4 p.m. and a light meal offered afterward at 6 p.m.

There is no registration fee to participate in the walk.

Adults who raise $150 or more and youth 17 and under who raise $75 or more will also receive a Coldest Night of the Year toque as a thank-you.
