newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com The City of Medicine Hat is launching its biennial Community Survey on Feb. 2. The survey asks local residents over the age of 18 to provide city council and administration with reliable data to understand community sentiment around a variety of topics to hep support decision-making. The feedback is designed to reflect the broader population using a small, randomly selected sample. Results are weighted to reflect age, neighbourhood and other demographics. This year, Ipsos will use a randomized telephone survey with an overall sample size of 400. The results are considered accurate to within + 4.9 per cent, 19 times out of 20. “The Community Survey provides important insights on what services and amenities the community values, and where improvements can be made,” said City of Medicine Hat director of communications, engagement and marketing Colleen Graham. “We recognize that people are busy, but we’re hopeful that if they receive a call from IPSOS, they will take the time to respond.” The survey will ask respondents about what residents feel is the mot important issue affecting the community and to evaluate their satisfaction with specific municipal services. The results are then benchmarked against other municipalities, and performance is monitored over time. “This survey is one of many sources of information that council considers when establishing priorities for administration,” said Graham. “These reports – along with ongoing community feedback – help ensure decisions are informed, balanced and reflective of the broader community.” If residents don’t receive a call from Ipsos but want to take the survey, an online option will be available at medicinehat.ca starting Feb. 4. Only one phone interview is permitted per household, but others are welcome to complete the online version. Results will be reported to council in the spring. 12
