newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Lallemand Plant Care has launched its fifth annual Hometown Roots Contest, a grant funding program supporting rural communities across Canada and the U.S. through agricultural storytelling and local initiatives. The contest has awarded 29 participants in both countries a combined $145,000, going to local organizations that provide hands-on learning opportunities, youth mentorship and essential community services in rural and agricultural communities. Interested participants are invited to submit a photo or video up to 30 seconds in length celebrating agriculture or rural life in their community. Entries can be uploaded at lallemandhometownroots.com. Entries should be accompanied by a brief description explaining how the photo or video represents what makes their farm or community special. Participants can submit up to 10 entries at a rate of one entry per week. No purchase is necessary to enter or win. The 2026 contest is running Jan. 26 to July 13. Winners will take home a $5,000 prize payable to a local community organization or charity of their choice. There will be one prize each for Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. 8
