The MHC Rattlers indoor track team opened the 2026 season with a record-setting weekend in Edmonton.

The Rattlers raced at the Concordia Open on Saturday, the ACAC’s first meet of the winter semester.

Rookie runner Daniel Friesen led the way for MHC in the men’s 50m, holding off NAIT’s Malachi Muir, last year’s Canadian Indoor 200m champion, until the final few meters, finishing second place. Friesen’s time of 6.15 seconds is a new MHC school record for the 50m. The performance from the Monsignor McCoy grad was the best ever MHC indoor clocking in any event, registering a score of 897 on the World Athletics Scoring Tables.

Logan Pancoast, another 2025 McCoy grad, erased a pair of Rattlers school records dating back to 2022. Pancoast was third among all college runners in the 3,000m with a time of 9:47.31, and seventh in the 1,500m in a time of 4:37.84

The top Rattlers women’s performance came from another rookie, Reyna Woodruff, in the 1,500m. Making a strong move at the 1,200m mark, Woodruff passed two runners on the final lap, finishing in second place among the college runners.

Collectively, the Rattlers women placed fifth, the Rattlers men finished in sixth place out of 12 ACAC teams.

Next up for the Rattlers indoor tracksters is ACAC 2 hosted by Red Deer Polytechnic on Feb. 14.
