Mayor Linnsie Clark says one topic she will discuss during her keynote speech next week will surround the importance of improving communication between elected officials, city staff and residents.

That topic will be among several others at the upcoming annual State of the City luncheon held next Tuesday at the Medicine Hat Lodge.

“Certainly, community engagement both ways is definitely going to be something that we’re seeking over the next four years,” she said. “Trying to empower existing groups in our community to contribute as much as they can … We have great community groups doing great things and we have to find ways to empower them to continue doing that.”

Clark says her fifth address at the annual luncheon will be a hybrid-style speech that will include questions from members of the Kiwanis Club of Medicine Hat, which is co-hosting the event with the Medicine Hat Lodge.

“I think it’ll be a very engaging conversation,” said Clark, who expects to answer difficult questions following a turbulent year and a half at city hall.

This year’s theme is “Building Together: Mayor’s Luncheon on Community Engagement,” and tickets are available online at evenetbright.ca.

Doors will open at the Medicine Hat Lodge Ballroom at 10:30 a.m. with a lunch buffet planned for 11:45 a.m. The welcoming address is planned to start at 11:30 a.m. and the event is scheduled to conclude at 1:30 p.m.
