Veteran skaters lead Canada’s long-track speedskating team into Milan Cortina

CALGARY — Veteran athletes and Olympic medallists lead Canada’s long-track speedskating team into the Milan Cortina Games.

There will be 15 Canadians competing in long-track in Milan, where the sport will be contested in a temporary venue in an exhibition centre.

Isabelle Weidemann, Ivanie Blondin and Valérie Maltais will attempt to defend their gold medal in women’s team pursuit.

Weidemann and Blondin also won medals in individual events four years ago in Beijing.

Ted-Jan Bloemen looks to return to the podium in men’s long-distance races after earning gold and silver in 2018.

Canada has won 42 medals in long-track speedskating at the Olympic Games.
