MHC faculty signs new collective agreement

Two labour settlements were reached by collective bargaining in Medicine Hat in December.

The Medicine Hat College Faculty Association, which represents 220 employees, negotiated a new 48-month contract in December.

The new contract, settled Dec. 19, includes a raise of 3 per cent per year for four years. It will expire June 30, 2028.

The City of Medicine Hat Police Association also settled on a new contract. The 36 employees represented by the police association negotiated a three-year deal, with 3.75 per cent raises for the first two years and a 3.5 per cent raise in the third year. The agreement expires Dec. 31, 2027.

The 135 Medicine Hat College employees represented by AUPE are currently in the midst of bargaining a new collective agreement. Their previous agreement expired in June 2024.

The average change in wages achieved by agreements reached in 2025 was 3.1 per cent in Alberta.

The average weekly earnings in the province increased by 2.5 per cent in 2025, behind the national average of 3.7 per cent.
