WINNIPEG — Adam Lowry scored the winning goal and added an assist to lead the Winnipeg Jets to a 5-4 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.
Kyle Connor, who also had a goal and a helper, Dylan DeMelo, Jonathan Toews and Josh Morrissey also scored for Winnipeg, which won its third in a row.
Matthew Schaefer of the Islanders, who scored with 46 seconds left and the goalie pulled, made the score 5-4.
Kyle MacLean, Emil Heineman, on a penalty shot, and Anthony Duclair also scored for New York.
Connor Hellebuyck made 23 saves for Winnipeg (18-22-5) before 14,114 fans at Canada Life Centre.
Ilya Sorokin stopped 17 of 22 shots for New York (25-16-5).
The Jets finished their five-game homestand with a 3-1-1 record.
Lowry had increased Winnipeg’s lead to 5-3 when deflected a Neal Pionk point shot past Sorokin with 20 seconds left in the second period.
DeMelo snapped a 3-3 tied at 12:23 when he scored on a screened shot from the blue line. Mark Scheifele and Nino Niederreiter assisted.
The Islanders had knotted the game at 3-3 in a whirlwind of goals just 3:41 apart in the middle frame. First, Duclair converted an Anders Lee shot at 7:40 of the second period. Then, Heineman scored on a penalty shot to pull the Isles to within 3-2. MacLean was then set up in front by Casey Cizikas to score at 10:21.
Just 42 seconds after Winnipeg took a 2-0 lead, Toews scored on the power play, slipping a Gabe Vilardi rebound past Sorokin to increase the lead to 3-0. Connor also assisted.
Morrissey had upped the score to 2-0 early in the second period. His screened shot from inside the points beat Sorokin. Cole Perfetti and Lowry assisted.
Connor opened the scoring 4:20 into the opening period. Alex Iafallo deflected a Scheifele shot from the middle of the point. Connor pounced on the rebound and swept it past Sorokin.
