newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com The nomination period for the province’s highest honour, the Alberta Order of Excellence, is closing Feb. 15. The Order recognizes individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to their communities and to the province of Alberta. Members of the Order include athletes, academics, farmers, business leaders and artists whose work has helped shape the province. Nominations are accepted year-round, but applications seeking consideration for investiture in 2026 must be received by the Feb. 15 deadline. To be eligible for membership in the Order, nominees must be Canadian citizens currently residing in Alberta, and they must be able to attend the investiture ceremony if selected. Individuals cannot nominate themselves, their spouses or a member of their immediate family. The Order was created in 1979, with the first investiture in 1981. Inductees in 2025 included local advocate for agricultural education Nichole Neubauer. Other past and present members include former prime Minister Stephen Harper, former premier Peter Lougheed and Olympic gold-medalist Beckie Scott. 11
