The nomination period is open for honorary degrees from Medicine Hat College.

The college grants an honorary degree to a community-minded individual every year. The winner demonstrates distinction in activities that align with college values including scholarship, the advancement of learning, welfare and social responsibility, creativity and innovation, enterprise and public service.

Members of the public are encouraged to submit a nomination to the college before the deadline of Jan. 31. All submitted information is confidential.

The selected candidate will be celebrated at the college’s annual convocation ceremony on June 12.

“Celebrating our 60th convocation year is a proud moment for Medicine Hat College and the communities we serve,” says Sarah MacKenzie, MHC board chair.

“This spring, we will continue that tradition by honouring individuals whose dedication and vision help us build a stronger, more vibrant future for southeast Alberta.”

Last year, Medicine Hat Tigers head coach Willie Desjardins was awarded an honorary degree in recognition of his contributions to youth development, athletics and education.

Medicine Hat College bestowed its first honorary degree in 2005. Since that time, the award has been granted annually. Past recipients include Bill Yuill, Elder Charlie Fox and Ken Sauer.

Nomination forms are available on the college webpage at https://www.mhc.ab.ca/student-life/convocation/honorary-degree.
