Unbeaten Canadian women whip Hungary 14-0 at U18 world hockey championship

CAPE BRETON — Adrianna Milani and Hayley McDonald each scored three goals, netminder Rowan Houweling made 11 saves, and Canada cruised to a 14-0 win over winless Hungary at the Under-18 women’s world hockey championship on Monday.

Canada improved to 2-0 in the preliminary round having beaten Switzerland 9-0 on Saturday. Canada will play unbeaten Sweden on Tuesday in a Group A tilt at the Sport and Wellness Centre in Membertou, N.S.

Canada and Sweden lead Group a with 2-0 records, while Switzerland and Hungary are both 0-2.

Megan Mossey had two goals and two assists on Monday for Canada, which outshot Hungary 74-11 and led 4-0 after the first period and 11-0 heading into the third.

Caileigh, Alida Korte, Sofia Ismael, Rachel Piggott, Madison Levesque and Kendall Doiron also scored for the hosts. Anais Leprohon, Aurora Matt and Ismael each chipped in with three assists.

The United States leads Group B with a 2-0 record, while Czechia and Slovakia are both 1-1. Finland is 0-2.
