asmith@medicinehatnews.com The number of pistachio products recalled for potential salmonella contamination continues to grow, reaching more than 300 different products. An update to the list of products was released by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency on Tuesday, the latest in multiple updates as more products are found to pose a health risk. Residents are encouraged to visit recalls-rappels.canada.ca to reference any purchased pistachio products before consumption, as the recall notice warns that contaminated products may not look or smell spoiled, but can still cause illness. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections. Healthy people may still experience fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. If anyone believes they may be sick from eating contaminated pistachios, they are advised to contact their health-care provider. Suspected pistachio products should be discarded, as they should not be eaten, sold or distributed. 7
